The word aya is complemented by the word huma that together mean head, guide and leader in this context the aya suma is the leader of spiritual celebrations in the Andean region of ecuador, the guide of their people and spiritual personification of “PACHA MAMA” (mother nature).
This masks are use in traditional festivities such as “inti raymi” that is the sun’s festivities and the beginning of harvest and new cycle of pacha mama.
This pieces are usually very colorful representing the tradition indigenas colors that describe the happiness of the indigenas people. It also represent happiness and good luck.
